Get your teeth into Romania – themovechannel.com

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 10, 2009 ) Although Romania is one of the EUÂ’s newest members, it is really starting to make its presence felt on the overseas property investment stage. Attracting hoards of tourists each year drawn by the legend of Dracula, RomaniaÂ’s Transylvania and the Carpathian mountains regions have been named as future property hotspotsÂ…

Unless you have been hiding under a stone for the last few weeks, you will have heard of Twilight, the new vampire film that is taking the world by storm. Who would have thought there were so many closet vampire fans out there?

So, in the spirit spirit (sorry) of Vampires, TheMoveChannel.com takes a look at the homeland of the most famous vampire ever - Count Dracula.

According to the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investment, foreign investment from January to April of this year increased by over 100 per cent compared to the same time period last year.

ItÂ’s easy to see why. Not only does the country actively encourage foreign investment; according to the Ernst & Young SEE Attractiveness Survey, Southeast Europe (April 2008), Romania is classed as the most attractive investment country in Europe, beating traditional favourites Turkey and Greece.

Its stable political environment and economy goes some way to explaining the new interest in Romania property and lately investor interest has been shifting away from the capital Bucharest to the central Transylvanian region.

With record visitor numbers of over 7.7 million in 2007, many flocking to Transylvania, tour operator Transylvania Live has named Transylvania and the Carpathian mountains as two of RomaniaÂ’s most attractive locations.

This region of the country features a number of popular destinations, such as the Bran, Peles, Savarsin and Corvinesti castles.

Professor Duncan Light from Liverpool Hope University explained that tourism to such areas - which are synonymous with the legend of the vampire Dracula - can help boost the overall perception of the country.

“I agree with those people who say that Dracula is a way to get foreign tourists into Romania, creating an opportunity to show them all the other things the country can offer,” he said.

The sheer volume of bloodthirsty tourists could mean a solid rental return on your Romanian properties.

The World Travel and Tourism Council has also predicted that Romania is set to become the sixth fastest growing tourism sector in the world, with a growth projection of around 7.9 per cent per year from 2008 to 2016.

Romania is crying out for new investor blood, so why not sneak a peak at vampire country?
