(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 20, 2010 ) United Kingdom - Almost 300 members of staff from Chester-based Bank of America took to the call centre phones last month to help the well known charity Sport Relief collect donations.
The response from their staff this year was so overwhelming Bank of America had no option but to adopt a ‘first come first serve’ policy, resulting in a waiting list of colleagues, all eager to help out on the night.
Bank of America, is one of the NorthWests largest employer with over 4,000 staff based at its Chester headquarters. The call centre at Bank of America ECS ECS was used on Friday 19th March to take donations from the public for Sport Relief joining around 12,000 other people who gave their time to operate phone lines around the rest of the UK. .
The organisationÂ’s own sportswear was used, provided by the senior leadership team (pictured) to reinforce the companyÂ’s backing for the charity campaign.
John Greaves, Communications Executive for Bank of America ECS, , said:
“we’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve had. The fact we have had to create a separate waiting list shows just how strongly our staff want to get involved and support this campaign.
“For Comic Relief last year we did something similar and the donations taken by our staff at the call centre came in at more than £180,000. That is a huge achievement and we are delighted to be involved again this time around.”
This year, staff raised money with office collections, a sponsored one-mile fun run in the grounds of the offices at Chester Business Park and a range of sporting events and activities that staff took part in throughout the day – for a fee!
All proceeds went to Sport Relief, which aims to help the country get more active, raise cash and change lives. It is also aiming to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the worldÂ’s poorest countries.
With a vast range of charity affinity card products, Bank of America is already widely known for its support of charities, The organizations Charitable Foundation arm has also donated one million dollars to assist the relief efforts in Haiti earlier this year
As a global organisation Bank of AmericaÂ’s Charitable Foundation arm, is one of the worlds largest, making grants of more than US$200million every year.
