(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 17, 2010 ) Detroit, MI - With the passing of the Water Pollution Control Act (PL 92-500) of 1972, GB Utilities were again at the right place, at the right time. Their years of experience on-the-job and in designing special equipment proved to be invaluable.
Water Main Repair Services
Connections to municipal water supply by GB Utilities requires one to two weeks for process. From the permit through inspections and backfill, GB Utilities coordinates and performs the installation of the service.
• Permits
• Copper, PCV or a combination
• Special needs? They perform taps, cut in and main extension
• Professional, neat installations.
Domestic water main repair services usually are short runs of ¾” to 1.5” copper pipe. Longer runs might be a mixture of copper and PVC pipe to reduce costs (copper is expensive).
Contractors install services to the ownerÂ’s property line where the utility of jurisdiction will come and install the meter and make final connection to the main. In these cases the utility will often charge a hook-up fee in addition to the contractors charges to run the line to the street.
Please note municipal wells are driven to the deepest depths and the cleanest water available, are tested continuously and are regularly disinfected. Hooking up to municipal water allows residential owners to discontinue using the well and will better protect you from unhealthy effects of industrial and farming chemicals that have seeped into the upper groundwater layers.
Water Main Installation
GB Utilities installs ductile iron and plastic water mains up to 24” diameter. They have all the necessary contacts and can tap install, pressure test, chlorinate and certify every water main repair or installation service.
Specialty meters or RPZÂ’s required? Please contact them for a free quote on supply and installation of these devices.
Not in municipal water authority jurisdiction?
GB Utilities water main repair services can offer emergency repair services for damaged water and sewer line installation. Many parts are in stock for repairs.
Fire Lines & Hydrants
Adding a fire sprinkler system to your commercial building often requires a new larger incoming line and the associated RPZ valve.
GB Utilities provides the tap or cut in, chambers, valves and even meters for a buildingÂ’s fire protection services. Also, you might be able to save significant money on insurance if you install a fire hydrant!
Taps, Hookups and Cut-Ins
If you need a sewer line installation or the local authority requires self taping, we can help.
• Taps ¾ to 1.5”
• Saddles 1-3/4 – 3”
• Cut-in tees on larger sizes
• Plastic/Ductile iron
• Installation Service & Repair
A “Tap” is where the exiting water main is drilled and a “tee” style connection is installed in the main. These are commonly done where the size of service line is two sizes less than the main being tapped. A “Cut In” is where the main would need to be shut down, a section of pipe removed and replaced with a “tee” fitting in the appropriate size.
