How To Minimize Losses From An Unplanned Website Outage!

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 04, 2011 ) Oakdale, MN -- Websites are hosted on web servers. Web servers have hardware and software issues just like all computers do. So, when a web servers goes down it takes all of the websites it was hosting with it.

This means all of the website owners that were hosting their website on that server are now suffering losses because the server is down. The sad part to this story is the fact that most website owners will not even be notified that their website was down to begin with. Eventually the hosting company will notice the server is down and get around to repairing repairing the problem.

So, hopefully the website owner's site will only be down an hour or two instead of several hours which is more common. But how can a website owner protect themselves from such events ever happening? Well, a website owner needs to start using some type of website monitoring services. This type of monitoring service will watch over a website and if the website is down it will notify the website owner within minutes of the outage.

The owner then has the opportunity to call the hosting company and let them know their website is not accessible via the net and they want it looked into immediately. This will get the hosting company to take notice of the server and fix it asap. This in turn will minimize the losses the website owner would normally suffer.

The monitoring service company will also pay attention to the server up time as well. This will allow the owner to know how long their site has been up since the last outage which is important information to have.

This type of monitoring is done typically via what is called a 'port check'. Because each service on a website has a specific port number assigned to it so software can address it directly.

For example websites are by default port 80. So, a monitoring service would monitor port 80 for the owners website and the moment it can no longer access the site via port 80 it will triple check the potential outage. If it is a true outage it will then notify the owner of the site via email, text message, desktop application if applicable, facebook or twitter.

There is a company that does everything listed above and they are called Remote Monitoring Services located at: http://www.RemoteMonitoringServices.com. They have monitoring servers around the world with locations in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia as well.

They believe in charging users only for what it is they use monthly. For example to have a website monitored every 10 minutes from any one of their locations around the globe costs about $1.50 a month.

They are in the process of giving away $50 in credit to the next 100 people who use the promotional code of EBLNOV2010. All a visitor has to do is setup a free account with them and put in the code and then their account will be credited with $50 for them to try out all of the monitoring services they have to offer.
