 (EMAILWIRE.COM, November 08, 2011 ) Calgary, Alberta – Andy Jacyszyn from Disciple Homes & Improvements gives some excellent tips as winter comes about furnace air filters. Mr Jacyszyn stated recently, “A lot of people don’t realize how important a clean air filter in their furnace really is. I’ve seen several costly situations that could have been avoided by regular replacement of the air filter.”
Mr Jacyszyn also mentioned several points that will hopefully motivate home owners to check their furnace air filters on a regular basis. Jacyszyn states, “When the air filter is beyond its use, it becomes it becomes blocked and the furnace is literally being choked for air. There are real dangers in this type of situation, especially with the newer high efficiency furnace models.”
“When a high efficiency model cannot draw enough air, it will shut down. When this occurs, the home owner can literally be in the cold. The furnace may try to restart several times but the house will not heat properly. Also, if the furnace still runs, the home owner could lose more than half of the furnace’s efficiency simply because it cannot operate properly. So you’ll either pay for a new filter or for more gas to run the furnace”, said Mr Jacyszyn.
In addition to that Jacyszyn stated, “A simple way to keep ahead of this potential problem is to highlight a day, every month in their calendar to simply inspect the filter. Also, to ensure the home owner changes the filter, keep a couple of spares on hand. Another great idea is to contract with a local furnace repair center to come and replace the filter on a regular basis over the winter months.”
“With proper furnace air filter replacement, a home owner will normally find that they will require much less maintenance as the furnace is running as it should. Otherwise, they may find that they will face costly repairs simply because a simple to fix situation,” said Jacyszyn.
Mr Jacyszyn almost notes that the problems can be multiplied when the home owner also has an air conditioning unit built into the furnace, as dirt can accumulate in the air conditioning coil and plug the furnace as it exits and pass through the air conditioning coil.
