(EstateNewsWire.com, October 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Sandhan, a new search engine made in India, is now available as an opportunity for those who seek information but do not speak, or do not want the information in, English. The project, is just the beginning of India’s journey with technology and according to IT Secretary J. Satyanarayana is a result of six years of research.
Not only was the project researched for six years, it was also the product of 120 researchers working together.
The new search engine allows readers to search using five Indian query languages: Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
The engine has other impressive features. It is able to allow readers to search through phonetic keyboards, semantics for the Tamil language, and thus allows for a broader and yet more accurate search. To enhance readership, the search engine presents only ten findings at a time.
It is able to generate searches in one of the five Indian query languages and presents findings only in the language searched.
The system is developed to help users in terms of tourism domains.
Sadhan is a project that required the collaboration of academics, researchers, and industry partners. Institutes involved are: IIT Bombay (Consortium leader), CDAC Noida (Co-Consortium leader), IIT Kharagpur, Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology Gandhinagar, Anna University-Centre for Electronics, Anna University-Knowledge-based Computing Centre, CDAC Pune, Gauhati University, Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhubaneswar, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, ISI Kolkata, and Jadavpur University.
The project has been put together by Technology Development for Indian Languages (TDIL).
