Nebraska Couple Turns Their Basement into Luxury Getaway for Friends reports Value Dry

The walkout basement was finished when they first purchased the home; however, the couple envisioned a different use for the space. Their interest was a guest bedroom for three couples they had been friends with since their days at the University of Nebraska. “We’re a close-knit group, and we like to stay together,” Patty said.

The couples meet four to five times per year, and the Bass’ basement level accommodations is the perfect place for their friends to stay when traveling to Lincoln for Cornhusker games.

“We wanted to create a relaxing, spa-like feel,” Patty said.

Lincoln office of Interiors Joan and Associates interior designer, Kim Kenny, did just that for the couple. She designed the space to be luxurious while avoiding a feel of being ostentatious. She did that by utilizing natural colors from a neutral color palette with stone and glass tiles, along with touches of blue to accentuate.

“It’s livable, peaceful, and comfortable,” Kenney said.

Each of the four visiting couples will enjoy their own bedroom and bathroom, with luxurious linens, ample closet space, tiled steam showers, heated floors, and flat-screen television.

A kitchen is also available for the couples, complete with cabinetry, counters, bar stools, microwave, wine cooler, and coffee maker.

French doors lead to a patio overlooking the Wilderness Ridge golf course as well, creating a superbly calming space for the couples to stay.

“I do like the way the architectural elements help ‘define’ the spaces,” she said. Those elements include a dropped ceiling that follows the shape of the bar countertops, the statement wall of the TV area with slate tiles and wood shelving for accessories and accent lighting, and the partial walls that frame the pool table space.
