(EstateNewsWire.com, November 14, 2012 ) Dallas, TX -- 63-year-old Modestino De Vito died on November 5 after being struck by an oncoming bus after he jumped out of his car to get his dog back.
Modestino, known as “Moddy,” owned and ran Longueville Autos on Oundle Road and was a beloved friend of the community. Reports say Moddy was on his way to a fireworks party when his dog jumped out of the car and ran into the street. Moddy ran after the dog to get it out of harms way and back into the safety of his car. The bus driver did not see Moddy until it was too late.
When his death was announced, Moddy’s family was inundated by condolences. From letters to personal visits, it was clear from the response of the community just what kind of impact Moddy had on people.
A beloved member of the Italian community in Orton Waterville, Moddy was a huge part of the Italian Community Football Association. He was known as a happy soul with a loving personality and will be remembered for his ability to make people smile.
Carlo Broccoli, one of Moddy’s closest friends going back to the days when they were kids, said that Moddy was a very popular man. He said that to Moddy, family came first and that he was a genuinely nice person. It is something many say you do not find often enough anymore. Mr. Broccoli said that Moddy was the type of person who gave money at every charity event, someone that could be trusted with a secret, and someone that was very helpful to people in need.
After his tragic death, the outpouring of the community was apparent. Even online at the Peterborough Telegraph, people left comments of condolence to a man that had clearly made an impact on the people around him.
The story of his death was the most read when it was published on Monday, and there continue to be messages written in his honor. Moddy will forever be remembered by the people he touched with his warm, generous heart. He will be missed.
