(EstateNewsWire.com, January 12, 2013 ) Colchester, UK -- Plumbing has been noted as one of the largest problems in houses across the United States, according to a recent survey.
The survey took into account housing construction and conditions in the the U.S., and revealed that 1.4 million of the 115 million homes have what can be described as “severe” plumbing problems.
Despite the statistic, Americans are still highly satisfied overall with the quality of the housing. Owners of newly constructed homes report the fewest problems and higher levels of satisfaction with the living conditions, compared to those in older buildings.
The survey, conducted by the Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development, gave a new level of insight into the consumer experience within construction and conditions of homes across the country. The work was a definitive evaluation that covered more than 29 metropolitan areas.
Within the survey was revealed high levels of overall satisfaction when it came to home consumer experience, with above 70% of respondents ranking their overall level of satisfaction higher than 8 of 10. That number rose to 84% when focused on newly constructed homes specifically.
Severe physical problems with homes were reported in less than 2% of occupiers of the 114.9 million homes, the overall quality of dwelling construction throughout the United States can be said to be good and above average.
Still, there were 1.435 million severe physical problems attributed to plumbing, which was over half of the 2.125 million problems reported overall. Plumbing was followed by 602,000 who noted heating as a problem, and the 65,000 who chalked up electricity to the main concern. Maintenance and upkeep problems plagued 79,000 of the respondents.
Despite the above-average quality of housing overall, there were 37% of owners who reported some form of external building problems. Such problems included foundation crumbling, cracks and holes, and broken windows or missing roof material.
