(EstateNewsWire.com, March 02, 2013 ) Chester, U.K -- In a new effort to get kids into their respective schools, social workers will be visiting homes and getting children out of bed and to their classes. The move is part of a new drive to handle children who are currently in 'troubled families'.
Bath and North East Somerset Council is launching its effort called “Connecting Families Initiative” this week. The effort has targeted an approach to provide the long-term support to get true results when one is dealing with a household wherein there is little fundamental structural support.
The concept is that local authorities that work closely with schools, police, probation works, and any other number of organizations, can get to the root cause of generations of problems that weigh upon troubled families.
B&NES have identified 117 families that they wish to have take part in the program. The officials believe the that over 200 families overall will be found within the next month.
There are saying issues that the effort will focus on, including long-term unemployment, antisocial behavior, systemic truancy, as well as domestic violence.
Tony Parker, who sits as the council's divisional director, gave a presentation on the general scheme for the early years, children, and youth policies regarding development. He noted that the effort would be run by a small and inexpensive team, which would give more longevity to the work (he hopes. He also noted that the focus would be to provide hands-on support for those children with the greatest need.
"This is about the work we do as a care team," he said. "We want it to be sustainable, so this is going to be relatively small, just a dozen or so people. They will be working across all parts of the council and with our partners."
The level of involvement by specialists and authorities would be set to a sliding scale of intensity, depending upon the direct need of the children involved.
