(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 18, 2009 ) GUANGZHOU, China - The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia, today announced that construction of the Asian Games facilities are “right on schedule!”
Officials for the 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en) reported today that "construction is on target" and some 60% of the multi-million-dollar facilities are completed including the Athletes Town and Media Town as workers progressed right through the recent Annual Lunar New Year Holiday and celebrations of the Year of the Ox.
More than 300 migrant workers powered through the holiday period with approximately 460 days remaining until handover of the facilities to the Asian Games management team here in Guangzhou.
Completion of all facilities comprising the Athletes and Media Town - located in Panyu, a residential community southeast of downtown Guangzhou - is slated for May 30, 2010.
Facilities in Panyu are being segmented into various "towns" for Athletes, Media and Technical Officials, the latter composed of 12 buildings that will be completed April 20 this year - with interior decoration to follow. Work at the Panyu complex broke ground November 25, 2008 and three construction shifts are working on a near 24-hour basis.
Construction of the Asian Games' sports complex including the the state-of-the-art Asian Games Town Gymnasium and new Sports Museum is expected to be completed by early Summer.
The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/en) is approved and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia and will be held in the “Flower City” of Guangzhou from November 12 - 27, 2010.
