Size Matters - TheMoveChannel.co.uk

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 21, 2009 ) Wales, UK - If you are one of the many homeowners who has considered downsizing to a smaller, more manageable home, then this could be the perfect property for you – 62 The Watton in Brecon, Wales, is a mere seven foot wide, making it one of the narrowest houses in Britain – and its just gone on the market for £110,000…

Don’t be put off by the width - this three-bedroom house may be slimline, but what it lacks in width it makes up for in length – going back more than 35 feet.

Set in Brecon, a historical market town in Mid Wales with stunning views of the Brecon Brecon Beacons, Norman castles and the river Usk, the late Georgian/early Victorian terraced property is on offer for the knockdown price of £110,000.

The house, which faces the historic tree-lined Watton area of the town and is next door to Brecon Rugby Club, has been owned by the club for the last ten years, and they rent it out to tenants. There isn’t far to stumble home after a pint either – the pub is right next door.

Local estate agent Clee Tomkinson and Francis, which is selling the property in Wales, describes it as a ‘quaint three-bedroom terraced house which would benefit from an internal upgrade.

‘The ground floor is a single room of some 35ft including a kitchen area.’

The house is typical of an ‘infill’ property, set in between a Georgian terrace and the Rugby Club and is being touted as a buy to let property, ideal for investors who are looking for a better return on their money than they are currently getting with their money sitting in the bank.

Amazingly, the property currently has three tenants living in it, implying it is something of a tardis within as its width is barely longer than one person lying down.

Although this house is making a good fight for the smallest house in Britain, it canÂ’t quite compete with the quayside house in Conwy, North Wales. That house is a teeny weeny 6ft wide by 8ft deep by 10ft high, and spread over two floors.

Despite once housing a fisherman who was more than 6ft tall, the property is now a tourist attraction. It made it into the Guinness Book of Records as a “540sq ft cube” in Conwy.

The long and short of it

From one extreme to another: the tallest residential tower in Wales has come to a halt.

Work on the £70 million 29-storey development in Meridian Quay, Swansea, has been called off after the construction company Carillion walked following a cash dispute.

The tower is 95 per cent complete and just two months away from being finished. Ferrara Quay Limited, the company behind the project, is now looking for another construction company to complete the tower.
