(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 24, 2010 ) Detroit, MI - “With all the negative media attention on city contracts, innocent, Black-owned building contractors are losing jobs and it’s affecting Detroit’s unemployed skilled workers,” voiced Ferguson. “Some companies have had to close shop and sell their equipment.” Detroit's “real” unemployment figures pour over the 50% bar.
Ferguson runs his business with integrity. “I’ve got nothing to hide,” said Ferguson. “People have been looking at my operation through a magnifying glass for years."
“Pay-to-Play,” Extortion, Cronyism
The regional FBI district has has dragged their crime-fighting net high and wide over DetroitÂ’s political and business relationships during the past decade. In the cases where extortion and bribes between officials and business owners have been exposed, guilty convictions continue to raise the Michigan prison population.
Unfortunately for the honest Detroit minority contractors, the federal authorities, aided by an overly aggressive media, are creating a casualty body-count with their “friendly fire.”
Under the cloak of “sealed affidavits” and “secret testimony,” the government is allowed to go in any direction with an investigation based on suspicion. But, “When did it become a crime having a friendship with somebody who got elected to a public office?” was the rhetorical question everyone asked.
Networking, “wine and dine” events, referrals, building relationships, lobbying. These are all sound practices that allow business owners to attract and educate prospective clients about their company’s services.
All legal in the "white" business world.
"The first thing my college professor said before teaching, 'The business world revolves around relationships. It's not what you know. It's who you know!' "
Detroit FBI Agents Caught in the ActÂ…ing
At the apex of a federal investigation in January of last year, the Detroit offices of Ferguson Enterprises on Wyoming Avenue were unceremoniously raided by agents of the FBI. The agents were investigating a tip from the local media that Ferguson had a personal relationship with a Detroit politician.
Referring to the “secret nature” of the Ferguson Enterprises investigation that January morning, the FBI spokesperson deferred all questions to a “sealed affidavit” when asked by the Channel 7, WXYZ-TV reporter at the “secret” press conference in the middle of the Wyoming and Fenkell intersection.
Free Press Praises Ferguson Enterprises as "Top Notch."

Owned by Gannett, the largest media publishing company in the world, That Free PressÂ’ slanted story however left out key points about the public bidding process, as well as failing the math portion of its bias content.
The Freep claimed that Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. received over $45 Million in city contracts during Mayor Kwame KilpatrickÂ’s administration term. However, their story tallied the 10 projects won by FEI. The dollar amount of those 10 projects were not even close to the Freep's third grade math assignment.
