(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 10, 2010 ) Detroit, MI – Robert Shumake recently spoke at a real estate investor’s networking group. He spoke to the group about investing in real estate stock known as REITs.
“There are two kinds of REITs; property owning and mortgage,” said Shumake. “The most popular REITs fit into the property owning category. These REITs use their funds to purchase income-producing properties; the profit from the income is passed onto shareholders as dividends. Many are focused on commercial real estate, like strip malls and office buildings. Others are focused on residential real estate, condominiums and apartment complexes. There are even REITs that focus on industrial investments, like warehouses.”
Robert Shumake went on to explain the second type of REITs, mortgage REITs. “This type is more on the backside of things. Their funds go into purchasing mortgages and mortgage securities to make a profit on the interest earned. Some REITs are a combination of both styles.”
When asked if REITs are a good investment, Robert answered, “For the most part, REITs are a smart investment; they generally see a consistent return on their investment.
