(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 27, 2011 ) Las Vegas, NV -- At their annual Gala on May 21 at the ARIA Resort & Casino, the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) of Nevada inspired those in attendance with inspirational messages, awarded two outstanding UNLV students scholarships of $1,000 each, and announced new board president Erick Sanchez.
Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh welcomed those in attendance with an inspirational video message. Hsieh shared his excitement regarding the online retailerÂ’s move to downtown Las Vegas. Anticipation built throughout the room as he delivered words of inspiration to the diverse audience from the construction industry.
Jamie Naughton, Zappos.com Speaker of the House delivered the keynote address. She shared details of the online retailerÂ’s move downtown. Those familiar with the online retailer know that a primary component of working at Zappos.com is the corporate culture. Naughton shared that in addition to their focus on corporate culture, they will add a focus on the culture of their city, downtown Las Vegas.
“Everyone agrees that a thriving and connected community is a place we want to live, work and play. To even start making our 4th C [community] successful we have to put just as much investment into where we live and play as we do our culture at Zappos,” said Naughton. This focus on the community includes plans to bring a whole host of new businesses into downtown so that Zappos.com employees can live, work, and play in one place.
At their annual gala, NAMC Nevada celebrates individuals and progress industry-wide. Scholarships were awarded to two future leaders of the industry from UNLVÂ’s School of Construction Management. Desiree Miranda and Jon Allen each received $1,000.
“One of our main goals is to provide education and training to minorities in the construction industry, and we are pleased to provide financial support for the future leaders in the construction industry,” said Sanchez.
This yearÂ’s Gala would not have been possible without NAMC NevadaÂ’s partners and sponsors, including MGM Resorts International, General Design & Construction, Martin Harris Construction, Greenspun Media Group, NV Energy, Southwest Gas, Mason Building Company, Whiting-Turner, and P & S Metals.
