Ilkley is within the travel-to-work radius of two large metropolitan boroughs in West Yorkshire, Leeds and Bradford. Railway connection offers about 35 trains to each destination per day, which are run twice an hour from Ilkley railway station, and the journey takes just 30 minutes. There are also frequently operating buses going from Ilkley bus station to Bradford and Leeds, and the main operators are First Leeds, Jacksons, Transdev, Keighley and District and Pride of the Dales. Ilkley lies on the A65 road and the nearest significant motorways are M62 at Bradford, and the M1 at Leeds, and getting there takes Yorkshire job commuters traveling by car usually around 30 minutes drive.
