LegalView.com Continues to Track Brain Injury News and Resources

(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 28, 2007 ) DENVER, CO -- LegalView.com, your resource for everything legal on the web, is staying on the cutting edge of brain injury research and news. Visitors to LegalView.com's traumatic brain injury information portal and its accompanying brain injury blog -- both completely free -- can stay updated about brain injury news and research that may lend hope to survivors. One of LegalView.com’s most recent blog posts, about the sentencing of a Colorado man, who brain-damaged a two-year-old boy by shaking him, underscores the importance of understanding and preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome. Bobby Alires, 31, of Grand Junction, Colo. was sentenced to up 12 years in prison in Mesa County Court this month for felony child abuse stemming from a 2003 incident. His victim, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, has made great steps toward recovery since the incident, but LegalView.com would like to remind readers that not all shaken children are so lucky. Shaking a baby can cause death or lifelong physical and mental disabilities by literally twisting the baby's brain inside the skull, destroying irreplaceable brain tissue, breaking blood vessels and depriving the child of oxygen. Shaking a baby is a form of child abuse and should be taken very seriously. Shaken Baby Syndrome is just one of many types of injuries that can lead to traumatic brain injury. At least 1.4 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury each year. More important perhaps is that according the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the two age groups most likely to suffer a brain injury are those aged zero to four and 15 to 19. This is due to a high incidence of falls and accidents in the former group and motor vehicle accidents in the latter. Elderly individuals above 75 years of age are also more likely to suffer from traumatic brain injury due to slip and fall injuries connected to the aging process and medications, according to the CDC’s website. Individuals interested in learning more about Shaken Baby Syndrome or other types of traumatic brain injury are invited to visit LegalView.com's brain injury blog and its accompanying brain injury attorney resource center -- a collection of information and news about brain injury intended to be the most comprehensive brain injury portal online. There, the LegalView.com team has collected original articles, news feeds, government information, a glossary of brain-injury terms and much more for visitors concerned about preventing and treating a traumatic brain injury. The Traumatic Brain Injury Blog and Traumatic Brain Injury Information Portal are part of LegalView.com's ongoing efforts to be the Internet's most complete online collection of resources about important legal issues. Visitors are also invited to check out LegalView.com’s Avandia attorney portal,
