Spring is Here and Orion Twp. Dumpster Man Tells How to Create a Compost to Handle Natural Waste

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 30, 2012 ) Orion Twp., MI – Composting is a wonderful solution to keeping plants and soil healthy. With a little effort one can produce a good mix to keep the soil and plants healthy. This will benefit the garden and will also reduce the amount of trash one throws out.

Compost has been a practical solution for yard keeping for centuries. Compost is an organic material that is used as a natural fertilizer for gardening and may be purchased from garden centers, or personally created through organic means. Orion Twp. Dumpster Man Dumpster Rental wants residents to know that by producing this kind of fertilizer, one reduces the carbon traces while enriching the soil for plants to properly grow in.

Creating a Compost:

There are several elements that are required to create proper compost. A good composting material should have nitrogen, carbon, oxygen and moisture. DonÂ’t worry because these elements can be found in common household and garden waste.

There are two types of waste needed, green waste, that which adds nitrogen and brown waste, that which adds carbon to the compost. Orion Twp. Dumpster shares some examples of these items below:

Vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, fruit, tea bags, mushroom, tea bags, old flowers, green leaves and grass cuttings will create green waste. Green waster adds nitrogen to the compost; it decomposes faster and acts like a catalyst to the pile.
Dry leaves, paper, magazine, twigs and wood chippings create brown waste, those that will add carbon to the compost. While this waste does not decompose quickly, it still important to the compost piles. Having a balance between these two elements is crucial.

Other organic materials can be added to the pile, such as eggshells, and seaweeds. You can also include older plants, wool, cotton, and even hair clippings. These materials are all biodegradable, thus they will all break down completely within time.

Orion Twp. Dumpster suggests that one does not toss in pet waste or add meat and dairy to the pile; this will entice pests in your garden. Orion Twp. Dumpster also informs residents that excessive nitrogen can cause the compost heap to smell. To solve this, add more brown waste, such as grass or old newspaper.
