(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 11, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- Low income elderly and disabled homeowners needing repairs to their homes but without the means to do so may now be eligible for repair assistance. Rebuilding Together Greater Cuyahoga Valley is an affiliate of the national organization and is known as the largest home repair and renovation program in the country. While they do not construct new homes, Rebuilding Together works with existing houses to assist residents in making their homes warm, safe and dry.
Currently working in Summit, Portage, Wayne and Medina counties, Rebuilding Together Greater Cuyahoga ValleyÂ’s mission is to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low-income elderly and disabled homeowners. To be eligible for assistance through Rebuilding Together, homeowners must:
• Be disabled and/or 60 years of age or older
• Meet the Federal Government’s HUD income limit
• Live in a single family dwelling
• Carry homeowners insurance
Free of charge to eligible homeowners, Rebuilding Together brings community organizations, neighbors and volunteers together to help improve housing through the following four (4) major program areas:
• Heat The Town – Provides free furnace tuning, cleaning and repairs to eligible low-income homeowners through partnerships with local trade organizations.
• Minor Home Repair Program – Offers minor repairs to homeowners in need.
• Safe at Home Program – To reduce the risk of falls or other potential accidents and/or injuries, Safe at Homes offers installation of grab bars, handrails and other equipment to ensure safety.
• Emergency Repair Program – Due to unforeseen circumstances, some repairs become urgent and determined an emergency. These repairs are generally completed within 48 hours of need.
Homeowners in need of renovations can be referred for assistance to Rebuilding Together by a variety of community organizations, service agencies, faith-based groups and neighbors. The type of work and repairs completed are determined by the need of the house and the homeowner. Applications for assistance are accepted by Rebuilding Together on year-round basis.
