(EstateNewsWire.com, June 26, 2012 ) Dothan, AL -- People living in the District of Columbia who are behind on their rent payments can turn to the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) for help. ERAP is administered through the District of Columbia’s Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Income Maintenance Administration (IMA). The ERAP program was established to help low-income residents who are facing various housing emergencies. Through ERAP, funding is provided to assist qualified households in paying for overdue rent, late costs, and court fees. The program also assists qualified families and/or individuals moving to new homes in paying security or damage deposits and first month’s rent.
The amount of ERAP assistance paid on behalf of qualified families and/or individuals depends on the household’s income and available resources. ERAP payments awarded to qualified households can only be used once per year. To qualify for ERAP assistance, individuals must:
• Be a resident of the District of Columbia
• Meet income requirements
• Be experiencing or facing a housing emergency
• Have a household that includes a child under 19, an adult over 59 or an individual with a disability
For more information about the Emergency Rental Assistance Program or to determine your eligibility, call (202) 724-5506 or visit their website at http://dhs.dc.gov.
