(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 20, 2012 ) Babylon, NY -- There are many Energy Saving appliances out on the market today. But should one just rush out and buy a new one because of this rating? This is something that needs to be considered. What is the savings to the customer and to the environment by updating to an Energy Star appliance?
Bob Dougherty, owner of Fleet Appliance Repair Babylon NY, is asked by many customers what they should do…repair or replace their appliance. According to Dougherty, Energy Star appliances can make a big difference in a business or homeowner’s energy consumption. One must remember however that whether an appliance is new or old, fancy or standard it is only operates as efficiently as the person who uses the appliance. There are ways to reduce energy usage with older appliances, so if they are still in good working condition then there is no need to rush out and purchase newer energy saving models.
In the event the appliance that is broken down is not worth repairing, in Bob’s opinion, he will let them know so that they can make a choice of what to do. Customers often ask Bob Dougherty for advice about purchasing a new appliance and many ask about Energy Star appliances and if they are worth the extra cost.
Every appliance will show two prices. One is the price of the product and the other is the cost of running the appliance year-round. A small savings today can mean quite big saving tomorrow, so consumers need to figure in the cost of product to amount they will be saving. In 2007 Americans purchased enough Energy Star appliances to limit emissions equivalent to green house gases from 27 million cars, all the while saving $16 billion on utility bills, or roughly one-third of their annual utility bills. WOW!!
Remember to check the Energy Guide labels on appliances to see the consumption rates for that model; it is usually expressed in annual kilowatt-hours and the approximate annual cost of running the appliance. Just because one has a model that is only a few years old is no reason to replace it. Please remember that one will not be helping out the environment by pitching an appliance that can be fixed into a landfill.
