(EstateNewsWire.com, June 23, 2012 ) Plano, Texas – Renovation and remodeling website Home Improvement The Easy Way sees summer as an opportunity for a house makeover. Site owner K. Chatman has given away several home repair tips in sprucing up a house inside and out.
“Summer home makeovers should not equal expensive, drastic overhauls. Be in tune with the season. A home makeover should be a summer breeze,” he said.
His most immediate suggestion is to match home accessories with the season. It could be as inexpensive as swapping throw pillows, comforters, and beddings for brighter alternatives. Or it could be substituting sheer curtains and simple blinds for heavy drapes. “Another doable summer project you can do right now is to rearrange your furniture, which should be of a lighter color by this time. However, if you do not have light-colored upholstery, do not feel compelled to acquire this furniture,” Mr. Chatman said.
Instead, K.A. Chatman suggested having slipcovers custom-made for dark furniture. These can easily be removed in the forthcoming seasons.
For the outdoors, a masterful refurbished or recovered wicker sofa makes for an eye-catching break from the green. Indoors, a bare and lustrous floor heralds the season in ways heavy rugs could not. Individual chairs in the breakfast nook could be replaced with benches or pews.
Fruit bowls on the kitchen counter or dining table are also in sync with summer. One may consider filling either a transparent bowl with lemons or a white bowl with red tomatoes.
“Plant aromatic herbs in pots or boxes and place them by the windows. Their fragrance would waft throughout the house with the incoming breeze’s help,” K. Chatman said.
Perhaps the highest-stake project a homeowner can embark on this summer is repainting. For instance, painting a single accent wall behind the cabinets or sofa could be sufficient. Choice colors for summer include fuschia, lavender, orange, turquoise, and yellow-green.
