Partying with Clooney Adds $51,750 to Bottom Line in Part I of Morphy

Floridian Carol Busse lodged the winning bid by phone in the auction that ended Dec. 21, and said afterward that she had been prepared to go considerably higher.“I’m a Clooney fan, but I also realized this is a great charity and wanted to get involved,” said Busse. “It’s a win-win situation.” Celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, sports and public service banded together to offer unique personal experiences and memorabilia in part I of the auction. A sports fan bid $11,500 for a meet-and-greet on the field with the New York Mets’ ace third baseman David Wright, while an Internet bidder paid $6,000 to have lunch with broadcasting legend Walter Cronkite. Another participant, who bid $5,750 over the phone, will be meeting NFL superstar middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma at a New York Jets game and receiving Vilma’s game jersey.Atlanta-based Realizing the Dream Inc. was co-founded by the eldest son of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, and former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young.
