Unfair Overdraft Claims From State, Regional Bank Customers Under Investigation

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 26, 2012 ) New York, NY – The attorneys working with Class Action.org are investigating whether state and regional banks have been unfairly charging their customers overdraft fees. A recent series of lawsuits have been filed against larger banking institutions alleging that they reordered their customers’ transactions to increase the amount of overdraft fees they charge, and it is believed that smaller, local banks may also be engaging in similar practices. If you suspect you have been charged an unfair overdraft fee, you may be able to file a claim seeking compensation for these charges. To find out if you are eligible, visit http://www.classaction.org/unfair-overdraft-protection-fees.html and complete the free, no obligation case review form.

Allegedly, certain banks have been maximizing the number of overdraft fees charged to accounts with insufficient funds by reordering their customers’ transactions. When a consumer makes several debits during a single day, the banks will process the largest transaction first, without regard to the order in which the debits were made, according to unfair overdraft fee complaints. For instance, a consumer with $200 in their account makes four $50 transactions early in the day, and a $100 debit at night. Rather than charge one overdraft fee for the larger, and later, purchase, the bank will allegedly process the $100 purchase first so that it can charge overdraft fees for two of the $50 purchases, rather than one charge for the $100 debit.

While overdraft protection plans save consumers from inconvenience and embarrassment, claims have surfaced that certain banks may be taking advantage of the way they process their overdraft fees. As unfair overdraft lawsuits against larger banking institutions progress and resolve, the attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking to hear from customers of smaller banks to determine if they have been subjected to similar practices. If your local bank has reordered your transactions to maximize its overdraft fees, visit ClassAction.org for a free review of your unfair overdraft claim.
