Tens of thousands of children evicted without a warrant.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 22, 2006 ) Brooklyn, NY -- Landlords are evicting poor families with students in tenths of thousand in New York City schools. The problem is even more prevalent in Brooklyn, New York. This eviction problem will continue to escalate if the court does not appoint lawyers to help fight for poor families who cannot afford legal help. This news release is a notice to creditors, public officials and the public at large that poor children are evicted from their homes everyday. When parents’ names only appear on warrants, the consequence is, for example, the greatest white flight in New York City history. In the Brooklyn public schools the white student body has plummeted to 16%, if the warrant less eviction of children continues unabated in the NYC area, the white Brooklyn public school student body will drop to 0%. In a court case # LT-61598/06 involving a white family was put on fast track by the Civil Court of the City of New York. The court transcript states the following:THE COURT: The proceeding was commenced before the child was -- before the child came into this world. MR. LIVANIS: Because they saw she was pregnant, they filed the complaint(s) against her. THE COURT: Well now that the child is here, she will be equally protected under the law. While the court states that children should be equally protected under the law, children from poor families are left without legal help. A mother in the above mentioned case gave birth to a child while Waverly welfare office was willing to continue paying her rent for the single room occupancy hotel, but a Federal HUD social worker refused to ask for another rent check form the Waverly welfare office after the birth of the child so the SRO could be paid. The Federal HUD social worker claimed that the SRO was dirty, dangerous and may not have insurance to cover for a baby. Insurance companies demanding additional enormous fees for children are cleansing NYC of children. HUD had already ordered the eviction of then eight months pregnant mother -- hoping to evict her before she could give birth. The expecting mother hid her pregnancy in fear of violating SRO policy that did not allow pregnant women. The mother was ordered to appear in court, but she refused because she could not afford a lawyer. The court ordered MR. Livanis, a friend of the family, to represent the welfare mother and the new born baby. The problem is Mr. Livanis is not a licensed attorney. Consequently, the mother was evicted with a warrant from her apartment -- of course the new born baby suffers from the eviction but without a warrant. The mother could no longer go to meetings required to get welfare, so the mother and her baby's welfare food and health care was automatically cut off by a computer generated form letter. No Waverly welfare worker had the responsibility for being judge juror and executioner of the automatic termination, case closed. Who then is to protect these poor families like the welfare mother? Evictions of poor families, like this welfare mother is significantly contributing to white flight, and this white flight is going to reduce the white student body in Brooklyn schools to 0 percent in not so distant future if nobody takes action.
